Sophie
Sophie is from Mollie’s second litter. I decided to use the same stud dog as previous litter as I was very pleased with the result of the first mating. Although, in theory she is a full sister to Ellie, she is a totally different dog. Her temperament again is exceptional, but she is a more reserved type of dog. Totally devoted to us. She is always eager to please and extremely obedient. She also is the holder of the Kennel Club Good Citizen Gold Award - achieved just a couple of months after having her first litter.
Sophie’s first litter was with CH. Xanthos Black Thorn - she had just 3 dog puppies. I was devastated as I was desperate to keep a bitch from this mating - but I had to accept what I had and the boys were fabulous puppies and now have wonderful homes.
She had her second litter of puppies in July 2006 with Pandreft Playing the Game and had just 2 bitch pups. 1 has remained here, Mia and the other - Bella - is now living in Hove with her new family.
Sophie has proved to be an excellent mother. In fact, I think this is when she is at her happiest. As I very much doubted Ellie would give us a litter in 2007 and Sophie had produced, although excellent quality puppies, such small litters, I decided to mate her again as she had coped so well with her previous litters. I used the same stud dog as previously, and she astounded us by having a litter of 10!! 7 bitches and 3 dog puppies. She again has proved herself to be an excellent mother and was totally devoted to her brood. She will now be having a long, very well deserved rest from maternal duties although I do hope to have at least one more litter from her. I would like to use Jaffa - if his hip/elbow scores are satisfactory. From this litter I have kept Maisie - again a sister to Mia but a much calmer puppy - well she is at the moment!
2008 - Sophie continues to have excellent health and on discussions with my vet, I decided her to have another litter with our very own Jaffa. Yet again she produced a small but quality litter. Only 1 bitch and 3 dog puppies. Jaffas breeder came down to visit us when the puppies were 6 weeks old to give us her very experienced opinion of them. She was very impressed with them, they have very good bone and are very confident puppies. It is always nice to have an experienced Golden Retriever breeder visit and look at your litters and give an honest opinion. The puppies have now gone to fabulous new homes and we have had photos of them settling in and we hope to keep in contact for many years to come and keep an eye on their development.
