Megan - our very first family dog. It was a family decision on what breed of dog to have. I had always wanted a Weimaraner since first seeing one at Crufts when I was 16. But I was out-voted and there has not been one day since when I have regretted that.
We asked the Kennel Club for a list of Puppies in our area for months - but none were available and we were getting impatient. We saw puppies advertised in our local Friday-Ad and went to see them. They were not with their mother and we were told that they had travelled up from Wales that morning - but did alarm bells ring - NO. We went back the following day to collect our bundle of fluff who we decided to call Megan.
Megan started puppy classes at our local Training Club and was quite good really. We should have done more with her really. She was a very good puppy and we all adored her. Occasionally she would do something to make us a little wary of her temperament. She was more of a one-man dog than devoted to us all. She did have the occasional growl and nip. We came to love her for what she was and we were all devastated when she died tragically on Boxing Day 1998. Kevin had taken the dogs out early for a walk in the forest as he was going to football later that morning. Megan was never a dog to run off and chase anything - but on this particular morning, very dark and early when there was no traffic on the roads she, for some reason decided to run off. The first part of the walk runs parallel to the road and she went straight through the bushes into the path of the only other vehicle on the road that morning - a taxi. He helped my husband get Megan back to the car and I phoned the vet as soon as he got home. Unfortunately, even though she only had the slightest graze on one leg, she had broken her back in two places so the only thing that could be done was to put her to sleep.
We had some tremendous times with Megan - she adored the family holidays and even now these are treasured memories.
Megan - a dog we will never forget who taught us some valuable lessons.
